The plateau of Table Mountain and its attendant peaks dominate the city of Cape Town and for visitors they are often the enduring memories of the city. Located in the centre of the city and gazing down over the surrounding beaches and vineyards, this rugged mountain wilderness is truly awesome to contemplate. As well as having natural beauty Cape Town is also a cosmopolitan city out to impress visitors with its nightlife and restaurants. Cape Town is the gateway to an incredible continent and it is fiercely proud of its new optimism and future.
Instruction
There are many fascinating museums in Cape Town, which provide an insight into its richly troubled and dramatic past. The castle of Good Hope was built to defend Cape Town but this stonewalled castle has not seen any action in all of its 350 years. There is an extensive display of weapons and archaeology but the highlight is the William Feur Collection, which includes some fabulous examples of Dutch furniture, like a table seating 100 people. The Cultural History Museum and Slave Lodge is a thought-provoking place that dates from 1660. Up until 1811 the building housed as many as 1000 slaves and then this tragic building was later used as a mental asylum.
